East London Airport is a small but busy airport in the Eastern Cape. The airport, formerly known as the Ben Schoeman Airport, handles between 20 and 30 flights on a daily basis and serves more than 400 000 passengers annually. The Durban International Airport, formerly known as the Louis Botha Airport, is the smallest international airport in South Africa. The airport serves domestic and international flights and handled almost 4.4 million passengers in 2007. It also serves as a gateway for local citizens and tourists visiting the Drakensberg or KwaZulu-Natal, although Durban has a relatively low number of international passengers. The Bloemfontein Airport is located in the Free State province in the city of Bloemfontein. The airport shares it runways with AFB Bloemspruit. This is one of South Africa’s smaller airports and it only serves domestic flights and not international flights. International visitors should take a connecting flight from one of the international airports like Johannesburg’s OR Tambo Airport. In 2004 the airport only served 225 636 passengers annually.
Only South African Airways, South African Airlink, South African Express and Mango Airlines have domestic flights to and from Bloemfontein. No international airlines have flights to the Bloemfontein Airport at this stage.
